Unfortunately I have to write about a bad experience I had at Café Solo not so long ago. What I had expected to be a nice meal on a Saturday afternoon turned out to be an experience I don’t really what to have again.

Taking the opportunity to enjoy lunch with a friend we chose to eat at Café Solo. Quite possibly a decision I would live to regret!

After taking a moment to decide what to eat – we ordered. However, when the food was brought out it was cold, tasted awful and to top it off did not look at all attractive in the slightest. I asked the waitress to return the dish to the kitchen along with my friends and heat it up, which she did dutifully.

On her return it was evident that the pasta dish did not look edible and most certainly did not justify the £9.00 stated on the menu.  I personally could have made the dish at home for a lot less and I am sure I could have made it look a lot better – lets get you up to speed, I don’t cook – therefore that comment says a lot.

I requested to speak to the manager, who is an ignorant man with no customer service skills whatsoever. It’s a real wander why the waiters and waitresses are so nice if they have had to learn any of their skills from such a man.

He was extremely rude and obnoxious and told me there was nothing wrong with his food, and even commented that if I went to Pizza Express I would get quality far worse a comment not only do I strongly disagree with as Pizza Express has a good reputation, but one that is not really of any value in Gibraltar at the moment.

Further to this rude outburst by the manager I refused to pay for my meal, resulting in what I can only describe as extreme childlike behaviour, the manager proceeded to  throw insults and rude comments my way. Telling me I was no longer allowed to eat in Café Solo ( I have therefore apparently been banned!) and that they didn’t need people like me… clearly me…. being someone who lives in Gibraltar and doesn’t appreciate the poor standard of food that is dished out day in and day out to the tourists and the extortionate prices.

I was thoroughly disgusted by the behaviour of this man who is meant to representing the Café Solo restaurant he made me feel threatened as a young lady and therefore I urge you all to think twice about eating at Café Solo.

If you do eat there, expect the quality of food to be poor and the service even poorer, namely from the manager not the waiters or waitresses, I have to commend them for having to put up with such a lousy manager lets only hope the Owner realises soon what he has on his hands!
